Baptist Health was created in 1990, but its tradition of medical excellence goes back decades. Baptist Hospital is a 680-bed facility located in the Kendall area of south Miami-Dade County, just 20 minutes from Miami International Airport. Founded in 1960, the hospital offers a wide range of medical, surgical and technological services. Today, the hospital is a major medical center, attracting patients from all over the U.S., the Caribbean, Latin America and beyond. More than 32,000 people are hospitalized at Baptist each year; about 78,000 receive emergency care in our 24-hour Emergency Center and Children’s Emergency Center. Also located on the campus are Baptist Children’s Hospital and Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute, as well as the Regional Cancer Program and the Diabetes Care Center.

More than 4,600 babies are born annually at the hospital’s Family Birth Place, which has Level II and III Neonatal Intensive Care Units. In 1998, Baptist became the eleventh hospital nationwide to receive the “magnet” status for excellence in nursing care from the American Nurses Association. Baptist Hospital was re-awarded the magnet status for the third time in 2006. The four-year designation will remain in effect through 2010. Baptist also received the Florida Governor’s Sterling Award for Quality in 1996.

South Miami Hospital also opened its doors in 1960, only five miles east of Baptist in the city of South Miami. This 460-bed hospital is accredited with a commendation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations, as are all Baptist Health hospitals.
